Sunshine Week 2015 off to a sunny start!

Thanks, everyone, for all of your open-government efforts!

Remember, there is a strong Sunshine Week package you can create from multiple stories, op-eds, a graphic and cartoons, provided by Eric Newton, senior adviser to the president of the Knight Foundation; The Associated Press; The McClatchy Company; USA TODAY; Gannett Co., Inc; and many more participating organizations and individuals. Go to the
Sunshine Week Toolkit for more information.

Happy Sunshine Week, everyone! It's off to a great start as numerous organizations produced local editorials in their Sunday editions. Let's keep up the good work in celebrating the positive impact of open government and access to public information!

In case you missed it, this year is the 10th anniversary of Sunshine Week, and there are powerful stories, op-eds, an informational graphic, a video and numerous cartoons you can use to create a strong package. All of the content is available in the Sunshine Week Toolkit and can be used by everyone and anyone free of charge, thanks to Eric Newton, senior adviser to the president of the Knight Foundation; The Associated Press; The McClatchy Company; USA TODAY; Gannett Co., Inc; and many more participating organizations and individuals.

Among all the great content, we encourage you to consider picking up Newton's op-ed, "A media conspiracy that's good for you," in which he says, "We can't stop fighting for sunshine because they won't stop fighting against it."

Sunshine Week 2015 is made possible thanks to an endowment from the Knight Foundation and generous donations from Bloomberg and the Gridiron Club and Foundation.

ASNE launched Sunshine Week in 2005 as a national initiative to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information. Participants have included print, broadcast and digital media outlets; government officials at all levels; schools and universities; nonprofit and civic organizations; libraries and archivists; and individuals interested in the public's right to know. In 2012, ASNE partnered with the
Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and has renewed the partnership to oversee the national coordination of resources and provide support for participants.
