Two new ASNE training opportunities for news leaders

 
We have two training opportunities (cybersecurity and emerging news leaaders) in June for news leaders and our annual conference with APME on Sept. 11-14 in Philadelphia. Travel reimbursements are available for the June programs. Register today to secure your spot.

Cybersecurity for Editors
 
Register today for Cybersecurity for Editors, a one-of-a-kind workshop June 3-4 at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Hosted by ASNE and Merrill College, the workshop will feature former intelligence officers, security and forensic experts, as well as a respected lawyer and an award-winning former cyber reporter, to provide the most practical sessions relevant in the digital era. As an added bonus, attendees will receive travel (airfare, baggage, hotel and/or mileage) reimbursements of up to $300. 
 
The workshop will start at 8 a.m. Friday, June 3, and conclude at noon Saturday, June 4, at Merrill College's John S. and James L. Knight Hall (7765 Alumni Drive, College Park, MD 20742), six miles outside of the District of Columbia. A Thursday welcome cocktail hour, Friday meals, including a reception and dinner, and Saturday breakfast will be provided. The workshop is limited to 36 attendees. 

A block of rooms are available until May 9 at the new College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, two short blocks from Knight Hall, at 3501 University Blvd. E., Hyattsville, MD 20783. Attendees must call Globetrotter Travel at 301-570-0800 or 800-322-7032 to make their hotel reservations at the discounted rate of $119/night for single and $139/night for double. Any cancellations must be made through the travel agency.  
 
 
Emerging Leaders Institute at Loyola University Chicago 
 
Registration is open for the ASNE Emerging Leaders Institute June 10-11 at Loyola University Chicago. The goal of this institute is to train up-and-coming news leaders with diverse backgrounds and help them succeed in their leadership roles. There is no registration fee, and travel reimbursements (airfare, baggage, hotel and/or mileage) of up to $325 per participant are available after the institute.

For two days, the institute will provide leadership and management training for new and mid-level news leaders from organizations across all platforms around the country. It is tailored to address the most pressing issues for leaders and the basic skills needed to lead and drive change. Some of the topics on the program include coaching and feedback, leadership style, driving diversity in news platforms, goal-setting and strategy, financial leadership, and technology and innovation.

The institute will take place at Loyola University Chicago, at 820 N. Michigan Ave. Interested candidates need to register by filling out an online form by Thursday, June 2. The form includes a resume and a brief statement on goals for the institute. Candidates will receive a registration confirmation email after their information is reviewed by institute leaders. The institute is limited to 30 people. 

A block of hotel rooms are reserved at The Drake (140 E. Walton Place) at the discounted rate of $295/night for June 9, 10 and 11.

ASNE-APME News Leadership Conference 
 
Register now for the 2016 ASNE-APME News Leadership Conference Sept. 11-14 in downtown Philadelphia. The conference will open with an evening reception Sunday, Sept. 11, at the landmark National Constitution Center, at 525 Arch St., just up the street from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.
 
A pre-conference workshop focused on newsroom transformation will be held Sunday afternoon for a limited number of participants. Attendees will also be able to attend events hosted by the Associated Press Photo Managers, which will be holding its annual conference in conjunction with ASNE and APME for the third year in a row.
