Attendees are eligible to receive travel reimbursements of up to $300 by submitting a receipt to ASNE at asne@asne.org, with the subject line "Cybersecurity workshop reimbursement." Travel may include airfare, baggage, hotel and/or mileage. 

Registration is $150 for ASNE members and $250 for nonmembers. 

The workshop will start at 8 a.m. Friday, June 3, and conclude at noon Saturday, June 4, at Merrill College's John S. and James L. Knight Hall (7765 Alumni Drive, College Park, MD 20742), six miles outside of the District of Columbia. There will be a welcome cocktail hour Thursday, June 2, and a special Friday dinner will be hosted by University of Maryland President Wallace Loh at the official president's residence. A keynote speaker at the dinner will be Hasan Elahi, a professor at the university's Department of Art, who is famous for his project on government surveillance. Learn more about the project from his TED talkFriday breakfast and lunch and Saturday breakfast will be also provided. 

Friday and Saturday sessions include: 

  • Former Central Intelligence Agency officer Mark Lowenthal and others at the Intelligence and Security Academy will turn a Merrill College computer lab into a hacker cell to teach you how to gain access to someone else's network and also let you watch a cyberattack as it spreads.
  • A government psychologist will explain the mind of the criminal hacker.
  • A forensic expert will reveal the vulnerabilities facing local governments and the challenges to police investigators.
  • Herb Lin, senior research scholar for cyber policy and security at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation, will explain cyber war.
  • Ashley Gauthier, a lawyer at National Public Radio, will outline new obstacles to accessing digitized government records.
  • Industry leaders will explain just how much personal data corporations are collecting from your iPhone and other devices and how much data is being stolen from corporations large and small.
  • Siobhan Gorman, award-winning former cyber reporter at The Wall Street Journal, will lead a story-brainstorming session.
